Arizona Dove Season – Opening Day

Arizona Dove Hunting
Arizona Dove Hunting

The sun rose this past Sunday on opening morning of dove season. Birds were flying at daybreak and I was ready with shotgun in hand.

Saturday, the day before the season opened, I had received a phone call that my grandfather had passed away after a short battle with cancer. My grandpa had a passion for the outdoors that was contagious, and I always looked up to him as an outdoorsman and a gentleman. From a fairly young age, he took me fishing and plinking in the hills of Pennsylvania and instilled a love for the outdoors in me. All these memories came rushing back as we remembered his life this weekend back east. Gramps, you will be missed.

Sorry to hear about your grandpa Ben. It’s good you got to spend a good amount of time with him, especially in the out doors.

Ben – my condolecences as well. My grandfather introduced me to hunting and fishing as well. I loved him dearly and miss our adventures together and the long chats we used to have.

Ben, What an excellent memorial for your grandfather. And how wonderful it is for you that you will always hold an excellent memory of him with each outdoor experience.

Each time I find myself backing up to a campfire I remember how much my mom loved warming her backside in exactly that same way.

I’m also sending my condolences to you and your family.

Hey Ben, the best thing you can do to remember your granddad is to continue living his values and instill them in your growing family. My grandpa was a special guy too, definitely a blessing while we had him around…
