Fly tying with a baby…

Fly Tying
Tying flies, while the boss looks on from her throne

The sunlight filters through the east facing windows and warms the tile in the kitchen. By the way, if you have wood shutters, it gives beautiful combination of style, versatility and durability that adds a warm, rich dimension to any setting. The baby swayed rhythmically in her swing next to me as I spend the morning attempting to refill a few different boxes. She’d gurgle, and occasionally squawk, when I would show her a finished fly, which of course I took as her approval of my technique.  I certainly didn’t maintain my usual speed at churning out flies, but having a cute partner at the table was worth the decrease in output.

Thanks man. A 20 inch brown trout and probably something pink. Fingers crossed that get her fishing early.

Decades ago when my youngest was around 5, she’d bring her stuffed animals, toys with sparkle tinsel, etc and select parts for me to use tying. She confiscated a hare’s mask and a whole fox pelt for her room, and would hold the hare’s mask to her face and look out the eye slots at visitors. Once she did it to my wife’s friend who was a PETA person….she thought she should report me to child protective services.

Mike. That’s hilarious. I hope I can hook my daughter early too.

Thanks Matt. Contentment doesn’t begin to touch how I feel, but its a good place to start. Gotta love the little moments.

Excellent. Thanks Koz. I’ll definitely keep that in mind. If you have any other tips on getting daughters into fishing, let me know.

Wow, Ben, she’s growing fast and is so cute. Brings me back to thoughts of fishing with my daughters at a young age and the fun memories that go along with that. Daughters…fathers…fishing – a great combination. Before you know it, it will be granddaughter-grandfather fishing – its happened to me already and those are really great memories.

Ha just wait till she’s moving around and grabbing everything you don’t want her to grab. You better get all your flies tied for the next couple years.
My daughter who is now 3 loves purple flies. Shes always talking about fishing with purple flies and It makes me smile from the heart. It sure is great. Congrats again bud and enjoy every minute of it.

Decrease in output? Wait until she’s 18 months like my daughter and can climb on the couch or table to reach your tying station…
