Last day of Arizona quail season

The last weekend of Arizona quail season has come and gone. I had a few hours to head out to an area that I wanted to hike in to and explore for future deer and javelina hunt. Although I toted the shotgun in, the shells never left my pocket and I spent quite a bit of time behind my binoculars, searching the hills for sign of javelina and mule deer. My nature walk (as my wife calls it) turned into a pretty good trek, and I put 6 or 7 miles on my feet. Although the Winchester never made it to my shoulder, it was a peaceful and fulfilling morning spent in the field, and I was able to see some new country. It’s tough to beat a desert sunrise.

Very true. It’s tough to appreciate it during the 110 degree days, but this time of year is heaven.

20B again? Looks like the area I’ve been scouting for this weekend’s javelina hunt.

Great area – sorry for the lack of quail, but the sunrise and time outside makes up for it.

It was a tough season in Gambel’s country. Always enjoy your posts and pics.

      Bryan,

Thanks for the kind words Bryan. Hopefully we’ll get some good rains this off season.

Great pictures, and post, Ben. At the end of the season, I have plenty of shells left in my vest, as well!

Yep I understand those “nature walks” I do the same with the Blue Grouse except I’m scouting elk, turkey and picking wild mushrooms, although the grouse hunting has picked up the last couple years.

FYI could be some good fishing in the high country lakes ice is off Sunrise any way should be some good hold over trout doubt there was much if any winter kill.

That’s about right Bill. There’s just something about being outside that it doesn’t really matter what you’re doing. Good info on Sunrise. Thanks for that and take care.
