So after this last trip to fish Pyramid Lake, I had a couple of folks contact me about ordering flies for Pyramid Lake. So while tying up these orders, I tied up a few extra and put them all together for a great all around Pyramid Lake Fly box. There are 62 flies here with plenty of variety that should be a great starting point for anyone looking to stock up on flies before heading to the lake. I’m selling the box as a complete set.

The flies included are:

Pyramid Lake Tadpoles (size 6)

Estaz Wooly Buggers (size 6)

Maholo Nymphs (size 8-10)

Tinsel Midges (size 8-10)

Ice cream cone midges (size 8-10)

Pyramid Lake fish can be a bit picky, but this assortment is what I carry, and I have found success with these flies.

Tis the season when bugs start filling the banks here in Arizona and throughout the rest of the country. The past few weekends that I have made it into the mountains, the fish are already starting to look up. I typically like to set up with either a 5 or 6 foot uni-thread furled leader with another 5 or 6 feet of tippet to the mini hopper. Often I’ll tie a ice-dubbed pheasant tail or another beadhead about a foot off of the mini hopper. When all else fails, this always seems to get the fish to move. If you need to restock your box with mini hoppers or you need a furled leader or two, you can pick them up online in the Arizona Wanderings Shop.

I have a new product up in the Arizona Wanderings Shop. My good buddy, Jason taught me how to tie furled leaders a while back and I truly feel that furled leaders are the ticket. I have fished many types of leaders in many different situations, and at the end of the day, furled leaders just seem to work better and last longer. One of the main benifits of fishing a furled leader is, unlike their monofilament tapered cousins, they have virtually no memory. Right now in the shop, I have up my favorite Uni-thread leaders. I call them “universal” because they truly work in a variety of situations. Before too long, I’ll also have some more specific leaders available including a “nymph/streamer” leader and a “dry fly” specific leader as well.

For those that do not know KC is a household name in the BMX industry and a well known face in the fly fishing scene in Arizona too. I had seen several of his fly fishing art pieces around and was super stoked when he agreed to put something together for the new t-shirt design.
