I always wondered what I could do with my quail feathers, I guess I now have one pattern I can tie. I would think you could do a soft hackle of some kind. Great looking bug. Reply azwanderings May 29, 2012 Thanks Paul. I’ve also started tying some of my pheasant tails with the smaller Gambel’s feathers tied in as soft hackles. It looks pretty sweet. Ben Reply Paul Freeman May 29, 2012 Hmmmm….I’ll have to give that a try. Guess I will have to wait until next quail season though. Great idea! Reply The Functioning Fishaholics May 28, 2012 Nice tie! Do you ever tie them in smaller sizes like 10s? Reply azwanderings November 5, 2012 Thanks for the kind words Stan. Let me know how they fish for you. Ben Reply Stan November 5, 2012 You ever tie them up in smallers sizes? Reply azwanderings November 5, 2012 Stan, I’ll tie them don to a size 12 on a 1x or 2x long hook. If I’m tying smaller stones I like to use this pattern – http://azwanderings.com/fly-tying-little-stonefly-pattern/ Ben Reply Fat Guy Kyle December 2, 2012 Beautiful fly!
