Birds and Guns

Doves
Doves

Spent a short morning in the field with good friends and plenty of birds in the air. Dove season is back on and there were no lack of hunters or birds out for the reopening weekend in Arizona. All four of us limited out (some faster than others) and made quick work of cleaning the birds. Dove is not my favorite game bird by any stretch of the imagination, but one of the guys cooks up a mean dove sausage. It was good to get out and dust the rust off of my shooting which is always in need of practice.

Signs of Success...

Thanks Bill. I prefer to chase quail, but going after dove is good practice and a fun time. Thanks again.

Some of those birds are likely escapies from the September Hunts up here in Oregon. In fact, I think one of those mocked me as he went past the point of my Remington field 12 gauge!

Nice. Not only did I succeed in getting my limit, but I successfully scared the rest of the birds here back up to Oregon. My incessant shooting and missing will give you another chance at them. Looking forward to this weekend and I’ll talk to you soon.

Any decent tying feathers come off those birds?

I’ve tried some from the dove and am not real impressed. I have used quite a few of the quail feathers and been happy with the results. I am hoping to get out after some ducks this winter. It would be nice to use some off of those.

Marinate the breasts in Italian salad dressing, store bought or home made, overnight. In the morning, pan fry them like sausage patties. Have them with your favorite eggs, hash browns and toast. And good coffee of course. Best way I’ve tried.

Thanks Ken. That’s good stuff to know. Can’t wait to get back out and get another mess of birds to try this out. I here you about the good coffee. I happen to be an addict for dark smokey coffee. Thanks again for the suggestions.
