Buffalo Camp

Buffalo Camp

Just some photos from a recent buffalo scouting trip. Cold nighttime temps make it difficult to leave the fire or even want to get out of the tent in the morning, but it sure does make you feel alive. We are blessed with some beautiful country here in Arizona.

I’ve been to Arizona on a mountain lion hunt by horse back and love the country there. I long to go back. I’ve also taken a buffalo with my bow and I’ve even thought of applying for that Arizona Once-in-a-Lifetime tag. He will have a blast and good luck

Thanks Bill. I remember reading your lion and lion story and for sure, these are on my list of things to do here in AZ.

Truth be told, the food is the real reason I tagged along. We always try and do things right when in the backcountry. The scenery was pretty good too.

Very cool. Thanks Mike. And yes, you can hunt buffalo in Arizona. The tags are very difficult to get drawn for and cost a pretty penny, but as you said, hanging a nice skull or hide on the wall is pretty cool. Not to mention the buffalo steaks. Now I’m hungry…

      Ben,

My good friend pulled the tag. From what I understand, the tag runs from January through late spring. He’s pretty stoked about it for sure and knowing him, he’ll do this hunt right and have a heck of story to tell.

Looks like a good time! I miss that country. Years ago I hunted the east side for muleys… we consistently saw a few buffalo in the burns just west of the Cocks Combs.

Excellent. Saw a couple deer and plenty of sign, but no buffalo. We were right in those combs. It surely is amazing and rugged country.

Sure was fun and yes, when I tried making coffee the next morning, my hands did go numb for a while. That’s part of the fun I guess.
