Hobo Dinner was one of my favorite meals as a kid. On my birthday this summer, my mom asked what I wanted to have for “birthday dinner.” The answer was pretty easy to come up with.
My favorites blend:
Start with a base layer of bacon. Add hamburger, potatoes, onion, carrotts, corn, bell peppers, garlic salt, pepper. Wrap that puppy up in tin foil and toss it on some hot coals. Dinner in about 15-20 minutes.
Mmmmm. Tasty. I’ve never tried bacon or bell peppers before – but I will. I’m sure this was in NY, but in Pheonix right now you probably don’t even need the fire – just stick it on top of your car at 3:00pm!
Sounds good to me!
love it.
We used to make those when I was in scouts. That was forever ago. Now I’m hungry.
Yum! I’m going to try that this weekend.
Oh man that sounds good! I miss those! Like Hal above I haven’t had one of those since the Boy Scouts. The only difference was we actually buried them in the coals for a while, but they would get ash in them so I think your way is better.
Thanks guys. It takes me back to when I was a kid too. Still one of my favorite meals today.

Looks too good! Haven’t done that in quite a while so thanks for the reminder!!
Maaaan talk about a blast from the past. I absolutely love foil-packet dinners! (as my dad calls them, he was an Eagle Scout and learned them in the scouts as mentioned above.) This is my favorite camping meal. Cool write-up.
Thanks Austin. Sure is tasty no matter how I get.

I still do this at home in the firepit. Great stuff!
Thanks Corey. It’s a fantastic meal wherever you eat it.
