I scored a free Saturday morning and got a chance to head out into the field with my good buddy DJ and his up and coming pup, Ranger. We planted a couple birds and let the nose on the dog work out the rest. With quail season just around the corner, it was nice to stretch my legs, see a dog on point, and watch a bird flush.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for this Arizona quail season to start.

Awesome seeing this. Has me want to start the season early. Quick question: Is that one of the new Q5 vests? If so how has it been for you?
Keep up the great work, maybe we’ll cross paths out in the desert this season.
It is a Q5 Centerfire. It’s a rock solid vest, Arizona-made. Definitely a great vest. Thanks for the kind words.
Ben
Looked like a nice day, Ben. I have a six month old setter who is going through the same training to get ready for the season. Your friend’s setter is looking great. Hopefully we’ll be able to get together, when I get down in December, to chase some birds with my new pup. Good luck on the dove opener next week!
Jeff,
Is your setter a Llewellin? I have a friend looking for one.
Thanks,
Terry
Nice looking pup. I have a friend looking for a Llewellin Setter, where did DJ’s pup come from?
I’m not sure Terry, I’ll ask him to comment and let you know.
Ben
Terry,
He’s out of field stock and not Llewellin lines. His sire is an Arizona dog and dam is from Texas, so I got him in Texas through a contact in Arizona. Let me know if you have any specific questions or if you’re in Phoenix come out to Boulders on Broadway this Friday night and we can chat in person.
Thanks,
DJ
DJ,
For some reason my friend is fixated on a Llewellin. Do you know anyone breeding Llewellins?
If you have a compelling argument on why you don’t have a Llewellin, let me know and I will put you in touch with him.
I too like the vest that you were wearing.
Thanks,
Terry
