The weekends in May fill up pretty quick for me. Between Mother’s Day and our anniversary, I’m lucky to find time to get onto the water. In the end, I found a free Saturday early on to make a long day trip to the Whites. With the ridiculously dry weather here in AZ, our creeks look like they normally do in July, and the hoppers are on the banks. The fish are looking up, and I was able to pick up a few good ones to round out a great day on the water. Can’t ask for much more than this, except maybe some rain.

I’m always happy, albeit not surprised, that you get into the best browns around.
Thanks so much Kristen. There’s a good bit of luck and being in the right place at the right time. Hope you find some time to get on the water.

Ben, loved your pictures and your site. Have two quick questions, how fast could you ship a couple of hats and flies, if I were to order them today. Also, have you had any recent luck on the North fork of the White River in the White Mountains. Thanks, Donovan
Donovan,
Great to hear from you. I can ship hats and flies out tomorrow morning. When do you need them by. I have had success on the North Fork. The key is to walk a good bit away from access points before you start fishing. Best of luck and keep me posted on how you do. Take care.
Ben
Ben, we live in Tucson and planning on taking a trip up there on Wed. Morning, so I guess I need them in a week. As it relates to the flys, that I am interested in do you have a set of your mini hoppers available, and if so, what would the cost be. Thanks for your quick response. Donovan
Donovan.
That’s plenty of time for me to get them to you. I sell the hats and mini-hoppers in the online AZW shop – http://shop.azwanderings.com/. You can see prices and order everything there. The mini-hoppers sell as a dozen and are tied up and ready to go for you. Let me know if I can help out in any other way.
Ben
BEN, JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW THAT THE ORDER FOR THE HATS AND FLIES WERE ORDERED LAST NIGHT. LOOKING FORWARD TO RECEIVING THEM BEFORE WE HEAD NORTH TO THE WHITE MTNS. THE HATS AND FLIES WILL SURELY PROVIDE US WITH GOOD FORTUNE AND GOOD LUCK AS WE SEARCH OUT FOR TROUT IN THE MTNS! THANKS, DONOVAN
Package went in the mail this morning. It should be there in a couple days. Thanks for your order.
Ben
Hoppers in May? Lucky dog. We won’t see any of those until early July in Alberta for sure. Hopefully you guys get a little rain soon though. Great pics.
J
Thanks Joe. We won’t be feeling so lucky when it’s a 115 degrees here in a month or two. Hoping for rain too. Thanks.
Ben
Beautiful photos and impressive fish as always Ben. Glad you were able to find some free time in your busy schedule.
Thanks David.

Damsel Nymph flies are always high on my list when I go for trout. But lately, I got a few nice results with some of the flies on the list here.
Hoppers are showing on the Klamath, used your “splashy thing” as a substitute n’ got plenty of action. Is this your own pattern? tw
That’s great to hear TW. The Splashything Stonefly is my own pattern. Glad it’s doing the trick for you.

Hi Ben, just found your page and it’s nice to see another fly fisherman dealing with the heat in az. I’m from ireland and try to cast a line at any chance. Do you have any recommendations for a day trip or even a werjend? Was looking at lees ferry etc. But not sure how that fishes or even how to fish it. Any advice welcome.
Tight lines
Brendan,
Great to hear from you. Lees Ferry is a great place to fish. Stay tuned for my post this coming Monday. Me and some buddies did a float up there. Tons of fish. You can fish it a number of ways. The most common way up there is two flies under an indicator. We fished mostly cicada patterns and streamers. Shoot me an email at Ben@azwanderings.com if you have any questions.
